Ten days after the killing of 30-year-old Rahul Phatangade during clashes between two communities at Bhima Koregaon, Pune rural police arrested three suspects from Ahmednagar district on Wednesday. A video of attack on Phatangade helped the police to identify the trio. According to police, some more persons are likely to be arrested in the case.

Rahul was the lone deceased in the Bhima Koregaon riots which had taken place on January 1. He was on his way to home in Sanaswadi village when he was attacked by a mob. After his killing, a case of murder was registered against unidentified persons in Shikrapur police station and Pune rural police was working on identifying the killers.

On Wednesday, the police managed to nab three persons from Ahmednagar in connection with Rahul's murder. Withholding their identities, superintendent of police (Pune Rural) Suvez Haque confirmed their arrest.

"We have managed to arrest three persons from a village in Ahmednagar district on Wednesday. They have confessed on killing Phatangade with stones. We are suspecting that some more people are involved in the killing and our investigation is on."

After the riots in Bhima Koregaon, police had gathered videos footage of riots when the groups from different communities were on the rampage. They are now checking all those videos to identify the miscreants and gather evidences against them. According to police, one of such videos helped police to zero in on the trio.

One of the police officer from the investigating team told DNA, "While going through these videos, we got a video of the incident when Phatangade was attacked. In that video, we could clearly see the faces of some of the attackers and based on those visuals, we could reach to the trio. There are more people and the work of identifying them is on."

The arrested persons have been sent to police custody for five days.
