Bhima Koregaon Violence: Devendra Fadnavis slams Jignesh Mevani without naming him

Blaming it on outsiders for provoking and vitiating atmosphere without naming Gujarat MLA Jignesh Mewani, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday said that state government is checking the CCTV footage and would not spare anyone if found involved in Koregaon Bhima incident.

Blaming it on outsiders for provoking and vitiating atmosphere without naming Gujarat MLA Jignesh Mevani , Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday said that state government is checking the CCTV footage and would not spare anyone if found involved in Koregaon Bhima incident.

Stating that CCTV footage of entire incident of Koregaon Bhima is being viewed, Fadnavis said that Government would take this incident to the logical end of it. Addressing gathering of Hindi journalists in Mumbai during their convention Fadnavis said that people from outside make statements which bring two communities against each other, but people of Maharashtra would keep such people at bay since people want development and not communal tension.

Communal tension after violence at Koregaon Bhima in Shirur Taluka of Pune district had led to Maharashtra Bandh appeal by various organizations on Wedneasday. Gujarat MLA Jignesh Mevani was invited for the function to mark 200 years of battle at Koregaon Bhima which completed 200 years in January 1, 2018.

Chief Minister Fadnavis made it clear that state Government would set up a committee for judicial inquiry under sitting judge of High Court. Speaking to media persons after releasing souvenir of the Mumbai Hindi Patrakar Sangh Chief Minister said, “Judicial inquiry has already been announced in to Koregaon Bhima incident and we are approaching High Court with a request of giving a High Court judge for conducting this inquiry. A committee would be set up for conducting this inquiry and sitting High Court judge also would be part of it.”

 

Stating that no one would be spared if found involved in incident, Fadnavis said, “CCTV footage of the incident is being checked and Government would go to the root of the issue. Entire chronology of the events would be checked and guilty would be punished.”

Appealing people to conduct themselves with restrain, Fadnavis said, “I appeal it to people of the state that please do not make any statement which would bring two communities against each other. I also ask media to maintain such restraint which it has exhibited from the beginning.”
