An amount of Rs 50 crore would be spent to procure state-of-the-art gadgets and equipment for Pandit Raghunath Murmu government medical college here which is all set to welcome its first batch of MBBS students next month.

Announcing this here today, Odisha's Health Minister Pratap Jena told reporters that an allocation of Rs 50 crore has already been made for procurement of CT Scan, MRI, dialysis and other equipment for the medical college.

A multi speciality complex comprising intensive care unit (ICU), ventilators, chambers for consultation with doctors is coming up in the medical college hospital premises, said the minister.

The newly laid campus of the medical college at Rangamatia is now ready with completion of classrooms, academic buildings, laboratories, hostel buildings while the work for other ongoing projects is in full swing and and scheduled to be completed in three months, Jena said.

The teaching faculties, dean and superintendent appointed for this medical college had already assumed their duties, he said adding 110 nursing personnel, 40 laboratory and 20 radiology technicians and two pharmacists would be appointed within a month.

On admission process, Jena said 81 students are already being admitted during counselling process while rest of the 19 seats would be filled on August 16.

The health minister, who was on a tour of Baripada, visited the medical college and hospital campus and interacted top officials.
