A 78-year-old writer and a former journalist who claims to have written a book on the life and achievements of Hindutva icon Dr Shyama Prasad Mookerjee on the insistence of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee is now struggling with the current government in buying those books from him.

Harish Chander whose book Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee- A Contemporary Study was published in the year 2000 and was released by Vajpayee himself has found no takers, not even in the current BJP government. So far, only around 1000 books have been taken, some by the current External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj's office and some others by the Gujarat governor in the year 2000, claims the writer. The writer had published a large
number of copies.

"I have written numerous letters to all the state governors, officials in the central government and even to the office of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and asked them to get these books from me but nobody responds. A party that has won millions of votes on Dr Mookerjee's name, is not even ready to accept him now," says Chander.

Dr Shyama Prasad Mookerjee is a Hindutva icon, one of the main founders of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, that later evolved itself into the present Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). PM Narendra Modi had mentioned his name at various places during his election campaign in the year 2013, making people aware about how Mookerjee fought for the cause of making Kashmir an integral part of India and had a great contribution to India's history.

"Having wooed people into giving them votes in the name of a leader, BJP is now ignoring their leader," he added.

The letter that Chander has written to Modi's office reads, "On the instructions of Atal ji and Sahani ji (Kidar Nath Sahani) I wrote a book on Dr Shyama Prasad Mookerjee which was released by Vajpayee ji."

"I was promised by Vajpayee ji that I will be compensated or rewarded for writing the book, but instead I have been punished as if I have committed a sin as thousands of books are lying unsold. I met your cabinet ministers also, they assured me but did nothing," the letter added.

After having received no response from the government, as a last resort of protest, the writer has now published an advertisement in a newspaper, appealing the Prime Minister and the cabinet ministers to buy the books from him.

"I researched and published the book on the insistence of BJP leaders and now they are refusing to get those books from me. I do not have a personal interest here, I was just following orders. I have done everything that I could do to draw the attention of the government. Publishing an advertisement in the newspaper was like a last resort for me," he added.

Officials in BJP, when contacted refused to speak on the matter.
