Digital India: Even far-fung places in the county had users logged on to the the adultery website!
The data from the Ashley Madison leak tells us two very fascinating things – the internet has penetrated all corners of India and Indians definitely love sex. According to www.infofrisktoday.in, around 1,50,000 Indians were registered on the adultery website, though it must be mentioned that the site also helps single people hook up.
We love to hide our sexuality, but the data suggests otherwise. How else do you explain the fact that Sunny Leone, a former porn star, is the most searched celebrity on Google for the last three years, trumping the likes of Narendra Modi, Salman Khan and others. A map put out by Malifedelco on Tecnilogical showed that users of the adultery website were spread all across the country!
What we learned from the map?
While we can't verify how the users were being tracked and here are some of our basic findings. It's important to note that Ashley Madison is also a dating site, so it's wrong to assume everyone on the site is an adulterer.
The data showed that Delhi leads the pack with 38,652 users followed by Mumbai (33,036), Chennai (16,434), Bangalore (16267), Hyderabad (12,825) and Kolkata (11,751). Even the Tier II cities like Ranchi, Nagpur, Varnasi had at least a thousand users or more. It doesn't end there, here is some data from randomly selected cities and towns:
