Five days after Anupama Shenoy, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Kudligi Sub-Division, submitted resignation, Karnataka Director General and Inspector General of Police Om Prakash directed R Chetan, Superintendent of Police, Ballari district, to convince Anupama to withdraw her resignation. It may be recalled Anupama had resigned on June 4 stating that she took the decision to quit the job due to personal reasons.

In January, Anupama hogged the limelight when she was transferred to Athani in Belgaum district from Kudlagi Sub-Division on the behest Ballari district in-charge minister PT Parameshwar Naik for putting his call on hold. Later, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had ordered DG and IGP Om Prakash to re-post her to Kudligi. It is learnt that a Police Inspector from Ballari left for Udupi to meet Anupama Shenoy’s relatives.

Non-cooperation

According to Lokeswar, a retired police officer, Anupama Shenoy was compelled to take such a decision due to non-cooperation from her sub-ordinates as well as higher officers. Lokeswar said that she felt loneliness or being abandoned while discharging her duties.

“I am of the opinion that no senior police officer has taken measures either to meet her or discuss about the circumstances that led her to resign. I do not know what has prevented R Chetan, SP of Ballari district to direct her to meet him and discuss the problems. Instead of counseling her and enhance her morale, the SP had simply forwarded the letter received from someone to the DG and IGP. Even the DG and IGP had directed the Ballari SP only after Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had asked him to do so,’’ said Lokeswar.

Liquor lobby

According to reliable sources, Anupama Shenoy’s stringent action against three people who own a bar and restaurant was the bone of contention between politicians and her. The sources said that Shenoy had taken three persons into preventive custody under Section 107 of the IPC. It was alleged that three people were extending the building of bar and restaurant preventing access to the Dr B R Ambedkar Bhavan. It made some Dalit leaders to complain to the Dy SP. As soon as the three people were taken into custody, a group of people staged protest in front of Dy SP’s office. Disappointed with this unexpected development, the Dy SP handed over her resignation letter to her subordinate officer and left the office in a huff and remained incommunicado till date. “It is not fair on part of Anupama Shenoy to remain incommunicado. It is her duty and responsibility to tell the people of Karnataka what are the reasons for her resignation,’’ said Nagalakshmi Bai, a RTI activist.

Facebook war

Anupama Shenoy’s resignation and her Facebook posts, though the veracity of such posts still needs to be verified, threatening Labour Minister P T Parameshwar Naik has come as an embarrassment to the state government. Ironically, the Cyber Crime Department is yet to take any measures to verify the posts on Facebook.

“It is not a difficult for the Cyber Crime Police to track the posts on the Facebook. It may be difficult to contact her over the phone but certainly not to trace the location from where these posts are being generated,’’ said Raghavendra Rao, a cyber expert.

Expressing disappointment over the controversy on the resignation of Deputy Superintendent of Police Anupama Shenoy, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday said that government officials should not wage a war on the state government if they have any grievances.

“I wanted Anupama Shenoy to continue in the service. I told the DG and IGP not to accept her resignation and counsel to withdraw her resignation. We are here to redress the grievances,’’ the chief minister said.
