An All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) member today threatened to take legal action against Shia Central Waqf Board chairman Wasim Rizvi who termed the Muslim body a "branch of terrorist organisations."
Reacting to the expulsion of Maulana Salman Nadwi, who batted for shifting Babri Masjid site from Ayodhya, Rizvi on Sunday termed the AIMPLB as one of the subsidiaries of terror groups operating in Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
"Terrorist organizations of Pakistan and Saudi Arabia take major decisions related to Muslims in India. Muslim Personal Law Board is a branch of such terrorist organisations that is spoiling the atmosphere of the country by following their ideologies," an official statement from Rizvi read.
Rizvi also stated that the AIMPLB should be considered a terrorist organisation and be banned.
Arif Masood, an Executive Committee member of AIMPLB, today said he will look into the possibility of taking legal action against Rizi for the statement.
"It is a very irresponsible and regrettable statement from Wasim Rizvi. On my part, I will see if there is some legal provisions, then I will file a case against him," Masood said.
Wasim Rizvi, who often makes controversial statements, had earlier claimed that Madrasas have produced terrorists and not engineers or doctors, prompting the Jamiat Ulama-E-Hind to issue a legal notice to him.
His recent statement came in the backdrop of the AIMPLB's decision to remove its executive member Maulana Salman Nadwi, who suggested that land for a mosque and a university away from the disputed Babri Masjid site in Ayodhya could be an option for Muslims.
Nadwi, after meeting Art of Living founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar in Bengaluru on Thursday, had said the Hanbali school of Islamic jurisprudence allows 'shifting of mosques' and that Muslims will agree to the plan.
Endorsing Nadvi's stand on the dispute, Rizvi said, "Ram temple should be built in Ayodhya, and the only way is for Muslims to build their mosque in some other disputed land.
