With the Madras High Court dismissing a petition filed by TTV Dhinakaran loyalist MLA P Vetrivel, which sought a stay to the Tuesday AIADMK General Council meeting, the ruling faction — led by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami — is all set to hold the crucial first post-merger meet. The agenda of the meet will be to remove party interim general secretary VK Sasikala from her post.

On Monday, Justice CV Karthikeyan slapped a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the petitioner and asked him to approach the Election Commission instead. Even as Vetrivel appealed to the two judge bench of Madras HC, it was rejected on Monday night.

Palaniswami of the Dhinakaran camp, hoping to stall the general council meeting, has been holding a series of meeting with his deputy O Panneerselvam and other senior ministers to discuss emerging situation. The general council meeting is expected to expel Sasikala and her nephew Dhinakaran and also to reverse all the appointments made after late party supremo J Jayalalithaa's demise.

Sensing the impending outcome, Dhinakaran on Monday fired a fresh salvo threatening to bring down the AIADMK government if their demand to change the CM and his deputy CM were not met. "We are trying to change CM Palaniswami. If not possible, we have resolved to bid a goodbye to the present government," he warned.
