Raking up a controversy ahead of the Budget session, the Badals-led Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has announced not to offer condolence to the super cop in the Vidhan Sabha, late DGP KPS Gill who was credited for eradicating terrorism from the state.

Stating that Gill was responsible for causing human rights violations and killing of innocent youth in the state, the SAD spokesperson, MP Prem Singh Chandumara said that the party has decided to write to Speaker KPS Rana not to include his (Gill’s) name in the list of obituary references.

The resolution was passed in the Core Group meeting of the party held by former CM Parkash Singh Badal and SAD President, Sukhbir Singh Badal in Chandigarh.

The first Budget session of the Congress-led government is slated to begin on Wednesday with obituary references to eminent persons who died after the last session. The former DGP, KPS Gill had passed away on May 26 in Delhi.

The resolution of the SAD has come under sharp criticism from the ruling Congress government.

“The condolence would be offered in the house and if SAD wants to boycott the session, they may go ahead and do so. Peace has returned to Punjab because of leadership of former DGP, KPS Gill and his contribution cannot be undermined in any manner,” said an official spokesperson.
