Twitterati express joy in Supreme Court verdict
Updated : Feb 14, 2017, 12:11 PM IST
After a week of protests in Tamil Nadu over whether VK Sasikala Natarajan would become the state chief minister, the Supreme Court on Tuesday sealed her fate. Sasikala was convicted in the disproportionate assets case, in which late Tamil Nadu chief minister Jayalalithaa was also an accused.
Sasikala will have to surrender herself to jail for undergoing remaining part of four year jail term. This also means that Sasikala cannot contest election for six years after her release from jail. That, clubbed with her jail term, means she won't be able to contest elections for another 10 years.
Twitter went crazy after the Supreme Court verdict and here are some of the reactions
Jayalalithaa died with her honour intact. Strange are the ways of karma. #sasiJudgementDay

#sasikala has been convicted for corruption. She has to answer for #Amma death also Both cases don't carry equal sentencing #JusticeForAmma

Well done SC. Let #sasikala check out jail now. Justice would've been served better if order had come in Amma's time so she'd go to jail too

Jayalalithaa, Sasikala and her relatives VN Sudhakaran and Elavarasi were accused of amassing disproportionate assets to the tune of Rs. 66.65 crore during the late chief minister's first term from 1991 to 1996.
They were also held guilty by the trial court and sentenced to four years with a fine of Rs. 10 crore each.
