On the fifth day of the farmers’ mahapadav followed by failure of the talks with government and the administration, the farmers have decided to take their agitation to the villages as the next step of their protests.

Gram se Sangram, as the tag of their agitation goes, the farmers will now be shifting their focus of action from town to villages in order to ensure consistent support of the farmers, whose number after unsuccessful five days has started abating.

Co-convener of the movement in Jodhpur, TR Sanwar of BKS said that if the government did not come out positively on our demands, the farmers will shift their protests to villages.

“We will now take our protests to villages as the centre of this fight with government from June 20. Under this step, mandies will be shut in the first phase”, said Sanwar.

The protests will be followed by demonstration on roads, formation of human-chains, courting arrest and boycotting the ministers during visit in the villages.

On the other hand, the enthusiasm of the farmers, exhibited on the first two days of the mahapdav, has started declining.

Scorching sun and sweltering humidity has also been taking its toll on the health of farmers and in past 3 days over  a dozen farmers had to be rushed to the hospital for treatment.

The anger for the government is also quite pervasive in the farmers, specially youth, who have been shouting slogans against the government.

They also tried to break into the police barricading and enter the collectorate, but were stopped by the police.
