"Sub-inspector Dilip Chauhan and constable (Munshi) Shambhu Sharan Paswan have been suspended for unnecessarily detaining the two entrepreneurs," Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Manu Maharaj said today.
Action was taken against four policemen for detaining two entrepreneurs who had created ruckus at a meeting in presence of the Bihar chief minister, while the government talked to them to know their grievances.
Two policemen were suspended and two others show caused for the detention of the two entrepreneurs who alleged that they were "treated like criminals" at Gandhi Maidan police station and were not allowed to have food or go to the toilet during the nearly 7-hour detention.
"Sub-inspector Dilip Chauhan and constable (Munshi) Shambhu Sharan Paswan have been suspended for unnecessarily detaining the two entrepreneurs," Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Manu Maharaj said today.
Show cause notices were also issued to Town Deputy Superintendent of Police Kailash Prasad and Gandhi Maidan police station SHO Priya Ranjan Kumar, Maharaj said.
The two entrepreneurs spoke about the problems they faced without Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's permission at the programme held on Tuesday and were detained by the police for a personal background check.
Meanwhile, the industries department reached out to Nemi Kumar of Madhubani and Suresh Kumar Sharma of Begusarai.
Principal Secretary Industries S Siddarth rang up the two and informed them about the status of their proposals.
Director, Technical Development Ravindra Kumar also spoke to Kumar and Sharma.
In a statement, S Siddarth said the government has initiated forward action on start up proposal of Nemi Kumar.
His proposal was kept for preliminary scrutiny on March 1 meeting and it was decided to assign it to IIT Patna, Siddharth said.
The statement said that another entrepreneur Suresh Kumar Sharma was also informed that the issues raised by him would be looked into and necessary action taken.
The issue drew some political reaction too.
Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Prem Kumar asked the CM to personally tender an apology to the entrepreneurs.
Industrial bodies also expressed concern over the incident.
"It is surprising that entrepreneurs were picked up for asking questions about the problems they were facing. The message has not gone well with them," PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry's Bihar unit chairman Satyajit Kumar said.
"On one hand, the CM is exhorting youths to become entrepreneurs, while on other, the police are questioning people when they raise their problems," Kumar said.
State Industries Association president Ram Lall Khaitan said there was no instruction from the government, rather the police "over reacted" on the issue.
