Efforts are being made to complete its construction by August, he said, adding that work on the Palwal-Manesar section of the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal project has been completed.
After making an aerial survey of the progress on the Eastern Peripheral Expressway near village Jahllaka in Haryana, the Union Minister for Road, Transport and Highways said completion of this project would reduce vehicle pressure by up to 50 per cent in Delhi, besides reducing pollution.
This is the first access-controlled expressway being constructed at a cost of Rs 4,418 crore, he said.
After its completion, vehicles would not have to enter Delhi for mutual transit to the states of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu and Kashmir, he said.
The minister lauded the efforts of the Haryana government in completing the work in its territory.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had laid the foundation of the Eastern Peripheral Expressway in November, 2015.
Like the Eastern Peripheral Expressway, work on construction of Western Peripheral Expressway in the state is also being carried out by the Haryana government, he said.
Gadkari said apart from smooth movement of traffic in the area, new possibilities for development of industrial and business sectors would be generated with the construction of Eastern Peripheral Expressway.
A new era of economic development would commence in the area with its completion, and it would also supplement government efforts on logistics improvement, he said.
The Eastern Peripheral Expressway would pass through Baghpat, Ghaziabad, Gautambuddh Nagar and Faridabad.
Many modern facilities, including highway traffic management system, electronic signage, video incident detection system, warning devices, over speed checking system, way-in motion, fire optic network are being used in the project.
As part of the project, 222 structures out of 339 to be constructed such as bridges, interchanges and over-bridges have also been completed, he said.
In addition to the construction of main bridges on Yamuna river, Hindon river and Agra canal, eight railway over- bridges, four over-bridges, 45 small bridges, 77 underpasses and 152 pedestrian underpasses are also part of the project, he said.
