This Navratri, half of the Domino's Pizza stores will serve only all-vegetarian food for all the nine days of the festival, reports Economic Times.

The idea behind the move is to recover losses that it has recurred since the last two years. It is also to prevent losses that food outlets usually suffer during the Navratri period.

About 500 Domino's Pizza stores from northern, central and parts of the western India of the outlet will stop serving non-vegetarian food. It is the first time there is western-style quick service restaurant (QSR) in such a large scale.

Domino's Pizza India President Dev Amritesh explains, "Consumption of non-vegetarian food reduces significantly during this time. This move is an acknowledgement that though we are a global brand, we are conscious about consumer needs. It's about making a statement to consumers."

For nine days straight, half of the 1062 stores will have the vegetarian food.

The special menu will have pizza bases prepared from singhara atta (water chestnut flour). It will have saabudana (Sago) crispies and dumplings. The cheese and sauces will have rock salt. Garlic and onion too will not be used in the food items. Grains which are not supposed to be eaten during the period won't be used.
