Three persons were arrested for allegedly trying to lure voters through liquor and bribing in Majitha assembly constituency.

Confirming the arrests, police said Balwinder Singh was nabbed with cartons of liquor by an Election Commission observer while Mohan Singh alias Mohni and Om Prakash Gabbar were caught by the people while allegedly bribing voters.

Balwinder was Senior Vice President of the Majitha Congress. Mohni was Vice President of while Gabbar was a district level senior party leader (also remained deputy mayor).

Police said all three were nabbed last night and a case was registered against them today as per the guidelines of Election Commission.

Notably, Majitha was among five assembly constituencies where repoll at few polling stations will take place tomorrow.

Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) demanded immediate disqualification of Congress Majitha candidate Sukhjinder Singh Lalli Majithia over the issue.

In a statement here, SAD spokesman Daljit Singh Cheema alleged that with the nabbing of three "close associates" of Lalli Majithia, it is clear that he had

"The Election Commission should take strict note of this and act against Lalli Majithia immediately", he added.

Cheema said it was shocking that fearing a defeat at the hands of SAD candidate, "the Congress candidate had directed his close associates to indulge in despicable activities".

He said the party would file a formal complaint to the EC also.
