2002 CNG fitness scam: AAP govt sets up commission to probe Sheila Dixit and Najeeb Jung's roles

The commission set up by the Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday decided to probe Congress leader and ex-Delhi Chief Minister Shelia Dixit and Lt Governor Najeeb Jung's role in the alleged 2002 CNG Fitness scam.

A  commission set up by Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday decided to probe Congress leader and ex-Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dixit and Lt Governor Najeeb Jung's role in the 2002 CNG fitness scam. The AAP government met on Tuesday to deliberate on the issue and decided to appoint a retired High Court judge to head the enquiry commission to probe the alleged scam.

Earler in June, the Delhi government's Anti-Corruption Branch reopened its probe into the multi-crore scam. The AAP had raked up the issue in December last year and blamed the central government of being silent about the issue. Three top officials of the Sheila Dixit goernment were already under the scanner. The scandal surfaced in 2012 when the ACB found that the Delhi government had suffered a loss of over Rs 100 crore in awards contracts to operate and maintain certification of CNG vehicles at the transport authority in Burari to ESP India Pvt Ltd instead of ESP USA. 

In 2002, the Delhi government had ordered fitness test on public transport vehicled using CNG and hired ESP USA as a consultant. Apparently, another firm called ESP India Pvt Ltd was awarded the tender. According to the ACB, the company conducted two fitness tests and charged for a third.
