A youth was killed while 29 other persons, many among them women, were injured when a private bus carrying 40 passengers turned turtle on a national highway in Haryana's Sirsa district today, police said.

Police said the bus was headed from Malout in Punjab to a Dera in Sikanderpur in Sirsa district when the mishap occurred.

"Amit Kumar of Malout in Punjab, aged 20, was crushed under the bus as it turned turtle. Twenty-nine passengers, many of them women, sustained injuries. Thirty women and 10 males, including the driver and conductor, were in the bus," Inspector Jagdish Chander, SHO, Odhan police station in Sirsa district, said over the phone.

He said the driver lost control over the vehicle after which it jumped the road divider, hit some trees and turned turtle.
