Curfew has been clamped in parts of Ahmedabad, Surat and Mehsana districts and security stepped up in the wake of violence and state-wide bandh called by agitation leader Hardik Patel for today.

Members of Patel community had on Tuesday night resorted to arson, stone-pelting and vandalism after brief detention of their 22-year-old leader Hardik Patel, following which curfew was tonight imposed in three towns of North Gujarat and some areas of Surat.

21-year-old Hardik Patel, was briefly detained over his hunger strike to demand OBC reservation for the Patel community, called for a state-wide bandh on Wednesday to intensify the agitation.

More than 50 incidents of violence were reported from Ahmedabad city where buses, police posts and private vehicles were set on fire while police personnel were also attacked at some places.
