Freeman is now part of Marvel Cinematic Universe in which he plays CIA agent Everett Ross.
Martin Freeman who is riding high on the blockbuster opening of Black Panther, revealed that once he was turned down by Star Wars makers.
In an interview with JOE, Freeman revealed that he was up for a role in another Disney movie umbrella – Star Wars. But the filmmakers preferred other actors over the Fargo star, despite being approached by them first.
"No, not directly. Indirectly, yeah. I had a chat with the folks a few years ago. But no, it’s been at the right thing. Yeah, there are other British actors that they prefer over me," said the Love Actually star.
The World's End star was also one of the few British stars who weren't part of the UK film export to the entire world – Harry Potter franchise.
Freeman, best known for playing Tim Canterbury in the original UK version of The Office or Dr John Watson in BBC's Sherlock, became part of Marvel Cinematic Universe as Everett Ross when his character was introduced in Captain America: Civil War. He has now returned to play the role in director Ryan Coogler's Black Panther.
Talking about his character he said in November 2017 that Ross has 'an uneasy peace with T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman), who is the Black Panther.'
"My character goes on a strange journey, an enlightening journey to Wakanda, which is the fictional African country. It’s really good," said Freeman.
Ross first appeared in the Marvel comic books in 1998. Since then he has become a significant character and an ally of Black Panther.
This is not the first time Freeman has been a part of a franchise. He has played Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit trilogy directed by Peter Jackson of Lord of the Rings. Freeman's co-star in The Hobbit trilogy, Andy Serkis who played Gollum, is also part of Black Panther. His character, Ulysses Klaue returns to the Marvel Cinematic Universe after 2015's Avengers: Age of Ultron.
