Ever since the first look of Jude Law as young Dumbledore was revealed, fans have speculated if Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald will deal with the wizard's sexuality.

A decade ago JK Rowling revealed that Hogwarts' headmaster Albus Dumbledore was gay. She also added that notorious Gellert Grindelwald and Albus Dumbledore were in love when they were young until a rather epic fallout forced them to separate.

The second movie in the Fantastic Beasts franchise will see Dumbledore (Jude Law) chase and stop Grindelwald (Johnny Depp) in Paris with the help of Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne). Will this also feature the love angle?

According to a report in Entertainment Weekly, director David Yates revealed that the sequel won't directly refer to Dumbledore's sexuality.

"Not explicitly. But I think all the fans are aware of that. He had a very intense relationship with Grindelwald when they were young men. They fell in love with each other’s ideas, and ideology and each other," said Yates.

Yates has not denied the possibility that the remaining movies in the franchise may address Dumbledore's sexuality.

Giving more details about young Dumbledore's character Yates said, "He’s a maverick and a rebel and he’s an inspiring teacher at Hogwarts. He’s witty and has a bit of edge. He’s not this elder statesman. He’s a really kinetic guy. And opposite Johnny Depp as Grindelwald, they make an incredible pairing."

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald will hit theatres on November 16, 2018.
