Last month, a well-known French luxury perfume and cosmetic house, took many by surprise when it announced that 65-year-old Italian actress Isabella Rossellini has been roped in to be its spokesmodel. What left everyone intrigued was the fact that the sexagenarian was returning to be the face of a special range curated by the brand after a 21-year absence. Rossellini is not the only one. Over the last few years, international beauty and fashion brands have asked models and actresses, who are well past their 60s, to be associated with them. Few of these ladies have also graced the cover of leading fashion mags and walked the runway for designers. As a result, they have not only challenged the pre-conceptions of beauty but also shown the world how they have aged like fine wine. After Hrs takes a look at other such instances:

ISABELLA ROSSELLINI

Daughter of Swedish actress and Italian neorealist film director Roberto Rossellini, she has bagged over 10 awards and 15 nominations over the years. Her association with Lancôme started in 1982. However, after being the face of many of its products for 14 years, she was replaced by actress Juliette Binoche. The then 43-year-old model and actor was reportedly ousted for being too old. Things took a turn when in 2015, she was lured back by the company. Though she was associated with them in terms of limited coverage, last month, she was revealed as the face of a new campaign. She even posted some of the pictures on her Instagram page, proclaiming they were ‘unretouched’.

MAYE MUSK

In September 2017, Maye Musk became American cosmetics brand Covergirl’s oldest spokesmodel at the age of 69. The Canadian-South African, who is the mother of business magnate Elon Musk, entrepreneur Kimbal Musk and filmmaker Tosca Musk, has been a model for five decades. She has appeared on the covers of countless fashion magazines, including Time for which she posed nude for its special health edition. Her preferred hashtags on Instagram are #justgettingstarted and #grandmother. She attributes her svelte figure and age-defying looks to a healthy diet and lifestyle.

LAUREN HUTTON

Last October, at the ripe age of 73 years and 11 months, American model and actress Lauren Hutton graced the cover of a leading fashion magazine. The same year, she not only walked the runway at Milan Fashion Week with leading fashion model Gigi Hadid but also took over from Kendall Jenner as Calvin Klein's resident underwear model. Hutton, who was rejected by leading brands at the beginning of her career for the gap in her teeth, has appeared in several advertising campaigns for H&M and Alexander Wang. She also walked the runway for Tom Ford’s spring 2012 collection and for Bottega Veneta at the 2016 New York Fashion Week.

EVELINE HALL

The 72-year-old German model, actress, singer and ballet dancer wears many hats with aplomb. However, she started modelling only in her mid-60s. In January 2011, she walked the runway for the first time for German fashion designer Michael Michalsky at the age of 65. Since November 2017, she has been presenting the eighth season of  Austria's Next Top Model. She also features in the latest ad campaign of French brand American Vintage.

CARMEN DELL'OREFICE

The 86-year-old American is known for being the world's oldest working model. She graced the cover of a leading fashion magazine at the age of 15 and since then has appeared in various mags. She retired after her second marriage in 1958. After her third marriage broke down and she faced a financial crisis, she returned to modelling. Since then, she has appeared in campaigns for Italian high-end fashion brand Missoni, French chain of cosmetics stores Sephora and  Swedish multinational clothing- retail company H&M.
