In the recently-released Thor: Ragnarok, Chris Hemsworth plays the God of Lightning for the fifth time. While this might be the third movie in the Thor series, the merger with other superheroes in the Marvel universe has seen him play the character twice in the Avengers series. Hugh Jackman has played Wolverine seven times before he did away with his claws after Logan

Till date, he is one of the few actors to have played a superhero so many times. His popularity as part of the X-Men team only went from strength to strength. The actor probably would have played Wolverine again had the makers found a way to get him to a be a part of the Avengers universe.

But with Hugh out, there are still many who have not only reprised their roles in superhero franchises, but may just beat Hugh’s record. Here are some of our favourite superheroes who have made more than one appearance...

IRONMAN: ROBERT DOWNEY JR

NO OF APPEARANCES: 7

It was in 2008 that RDJ made his first appearance as Ironman on the big screen. He has made the character his own over the years.

His portrayal as the billionaire, playboy philanthropist Tony Stark has been impeccable. With Avengers: Infinity War releasing next year, it will be a decade-long association with the suit for RDJ.

THOR: CHRIS HEMSWORTH

NO OF APPEARANCES: 5

While there has been Thor, Thor: The Dark World, and Thor: Ragnarok based on the superhero from Asgard, Chris has been part of the Avengers universe, which has seen him donning his outfit two more times. With the latest Thor film minting money at the box office and one more Avengers film on its way, Chris sure is going to be around for a bit.

SPIDER-MAN: TOM HOLLAND

NO OF APPEARANCES: 2

When Tom was picked to play the superhero, there were mixed reactions. However, his brilliant turn as Spider-Man in Avengers: Age of Ultron silenced critics. He carried on with good form in Spider-Man: The Homecoming. Tom is already slated to do another Spider-Man film, and, of course, he will be part of the Avengers world. Having started out young, we are sure he is going to wear that suit many more times.

SUPERMAN: HENRY CAVILL

NO OF APPEARANCES: 2

Henry played Superman in Man of Steel and then fought it out with Batman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The film famously ended with the character meeting its end, but it also saw dirt rise from Superman’s coffin. The Justice League seems to be the next step in getting the character back on his feet. And considering the fact that Henry has been appreciated for his role and made big bucks at the box office for the franchise, he is likely to don his cape a few more times.

BATMAN: BEN AFFLECK

NO OF APPEARANCES: 2

Batman fans weren’t very sure whether Ben, who had already played Daredevil, would do justice to the role, especially after Christian Bale did such a fantastic job before him. However, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice raked in a lot of moolah. Ben then reprised the role for a short appearance in Suicide Squad. His future as the superhero is uncertain, but he will be seen in The Justice League for his next stint as Batman.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: CHRIS EVANS

NO OF APPEARANCES: 5

Playing the righteous superhero, Chris has shared screen space with other superheroes and also has had his own films. He first played Captain America in 2011 in Captain America: The First Avenger, which was followed by Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) and the more recent Captain America: Civil War (2016). Like other actors in the Marvel universe, he too has been part of crossovers taking his appearance count higher.

HULK: MARK RUFFALO

NO OF APPEARANCES: 3

Mark joined the superhero world in 2012 with The Avengers. Since then, he has been part of the Avengers world and was recently seen in Thor: Ragnarok too. However, he hasn’t had a solo film. At a recent event, he said, “I want to just make one thing perfectly clear today: A standalone Hulk movie will never happen. Universal has the rights, and for some reason, they don’t know how to play well with Marvel. And they don’t want to make money.” So, while he may not be seen smashing things in his own movie, we are sure we will see Mark playing the big guy a few more times at least.

DEADPOOL: RYAN REYNOLDS

NO OF APPEARANCES: 2

Deadpool is a 2016 American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name, distributed by 20th Century Fox. It is the eighth installment of the X-Men film series. Development of a Deadpool film starring Reynolds began in February 2004, before he went on to play the character in X-Men Origins: Wolverine in 2009. The superhero’s visit to the theatres in 2016 was loved by the audience, and now  Deadpool 2 is set for release next June.

ANT-MAN: PAUL JUDD

NO OF APPEARANCES: 2

Though the development of Ant-Man began in April 2006, a few issues delayed the project. Casting began in December 2013, with Paul being hired to play the role. Ant-Man released in 2015 and Paul wore his suit once more for Captain America: Civil War. But that doesn’t mean he won’t get his own film. The next film of the series will hit the screens in 2018. And considering it’s just his second film as the superhero, Paul is likely to be seen in a role for a few more years at least.
