The Health Ministry has asked government-run hospitals to enhance the use of 'Khadi' linen items with immediate effect, the Lok Sabha was informed today.

The move comes after recommendations from the Committee under Special Director General, Directorate General of Health Services, which also asked such institutions to prepare an action plan for procurement of Khadi items.

"The Health Ministry has issued a letter on February 15 this year requesting various hospitals and institutions under this ministry to enhance the usage of Khadi linen items with immediate effect," Minister of State for Health Faggan Singh Kulaste said in a written reply.

The committee recommended use of 45 items available at Director General of Supplies and Disposal (DGS&D) rate contract in hospitals and institutions under the ministry.

"The hospitals are already seized of the instructions in this regard issued recently by the ministry," the minister said.
