A 42-year-old woman, who was declared brain dead, has given a new lease of life to four persons here.

Archana Dosi, a homemaker from Madhya Pradesh's Mandsaur district, suffered a brain hemorrhage some days back and was admitted to a private hospital here on July 23. She was declared brain dead on July 25, Indore's divisional commissioner Sanjay Dubey said.

Dosi's husband and other family members were then counselled to donate her vital organs.

After the woman's family agreed, her heart, liver and the pair of kidneys were harvested and taken to three hospitals in the city through a 'green corridor', said Dubey, who is also the president of Indore Society For Organ Donation.

The organs were then transplanted into four patients yesterday, he said.

The deceased's eyes and skin have also been preserved for donation, he said.

As per an official of Indore Society For Organ Donation, the organs of 23 brain dead patients have been donated by their respective families in the city in last 21 months.

These organs have been transplanted into nearly 130 patients in Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana and Maharashtra.
