Despite stern warning by the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, yet another statue of Babasaheb Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar was vandalised in Uttar Pradesh.

After Allahabad and Siddharthanagar, yet another statue of the Dalit icon was desecrated by unidentified miscreants in Nagla Brahmin village in Hathras district. The statue was installed in a Dr Ambedkar Park in the village.

Agitated over the incident, members of Dalit community alleged that upper castes in the village were behind statue damage. Besides dalits and backwards, the village has a sizable upper caste population also.

Before the situation could turn into violent caste clashes between Dalits and upper castes, heavy police force was deployed in the village to control the situation. The Superintendent of Police Hathras Sushil Ghule said that te mob relented when they were assured to replace the damaged statue with a new one and arrest those behind the incident.

This is the third incident of desecration of Dr Ambedkar’s statue in the state in the last 48 hours in Uttar Pradesh. Earlier, statues of the father of Indian Constitution were damaged in Allahabad and Siddharthanagar forcing the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to issue a stern warning to District Magistrates and Police Chiefs to ensure such incidents were not reported from any part of the state. Earlier, statues of Dr Ambedkar were damaged in Meerut and Azamgarh last month.
