20 minutes to a fitter you

Being a software professional, my work involves hours of sitting and staring at the screen. And the cycle repeated at home as I watched TV after dinner till I fell asleep (which is around midnight). Spending most of my time sitting and hardly getting up from my place not only took a toll on my health, but also my sleep. In a quest to find natural ways to deal with this problem, I discovered a surprising remedy that everyone can do (without any equipment, guide or assistance) — a 20-minute walk. A 20-minute walk — effective remedy for most common health problems

I couldn’t thank my mother enough for suggesting this. She was the one who made me walk every day for at least 30 minutes after I had dinner. She always believed that simple things that you can do at home play a key role in keeping you fit and healthy. And one such simple, yet effective, way to deal with indigestion, lack of sleep and improve blood flow is to walk for 20-minutes after your dinner. Here’s how it helps.

Better digestion: As soon as you eat your dinner, the gastric juices are stimulated. So if you walk after your dinner, this process is further accelerated and thus, aids in better digestion. And what’s more, all your indigestion woes, acidity and constipation problems can be put to rest.

Good night’s sleep: One of the main reason for difficulty in sleeping is continuous straining of eyes (at home and at work). And the simplest way to deal with it is to go for a 20-minute walk after dinner. This improves the blood circulation and relieves stress, making you feel relaxed, thereby inducing sleep.

Weight loss: If going to a gym or a Zumba class is not your cup of tea, you must try this. A walk after your dinner not only boosts your metabolism, but also burns calories and stimulates metabolism.Losing weight and maintaining a healthy weight can’t be easier than this!

Before you wear your walking shoes and get ready for this 20-minute walk, here are few tips to keep in mind.

  • Don’t go for a walk right after your dinner. Wait for at least 30 minutes as it might hinder your digestion process.
  • If you feel that a 20-minute stroll might do the trick, you are wrong. Make sure you walk briskly and not just laze around.
  • Be regular with your walks to attain all these health benefits.
