Ekta Kapoor's new web series on the ALT Balaji App, ‘Romil and Jugal’, is a modern day adaptation of one of William Shakespeare’s most inspired works ‘Romeo and Juliet’. The difference? It is a gay love story that deals with clashing cultures, homophobia, family issues, societal pressures and realising one's sexual identity.

The protagonists are Romil, a Punjabi family boy portrayed by Rajeev Siddhartha, and Jugal, who is from a South Indian family and is played by Manraj Singh. The two play a couple. Besides accepting that their sons are in love, the families have to deal with the huge cultural difference between them,

One can only hope that the web series gives the subject the respect it deserves. The 10-episode series will launch on April 16, 2017.
