31st October Review: The film tells you nothing you don't already know

The movie neither serves as a grim yet unforgettable reminder of the day some men became monsters or offers hope that history won't repeat itself.

31st October Review: The film tells you nothing you don't already know
Bollywood, Film Reviews, 31st October, Soha Ali Khan, Vir Das, Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi, Indira Gandhi assassination, 31st October review

Film : 31st October

Director : Shivajj Lotan Patil

Cast : Vir Das, Soha Ali Khan

What's it about:

The day a Prime Minister was shot down in cold blood by her bodyguards. The day rioters made Delhi burn. The day a community feared for its lives, its identity and its soul. And a film that does nothing more than give you a history lesson.
It's about the day Devinder (Das), his wife Tejinder (Khan) and their children -- two boys and a baby had to run and hide because of the community they belonged to. Because there were crazed people in the streets killing and maiming anyone in a turban.
At the same time, it is about the people you thought you knew and learned about the ones you didn't.

What's hot:

The October heat? I'm sorry... were you asking about this film? Well, I'm still wondering what to put here.
Well, a couple of performances, likenesses and moments did rise above the banality of the exercise that is this film, but yeah... not enough to merit a mention

What's not:

The lead pair make you yawn. They've got negligible chemistry as a married couple. Their children are annoying. Their neighbors are annoying. The supporting cast looks like it was put together by someone not serious about their job. The actors can't decide on what accent to keep, what emotions to portray, the characters weakly written, you wonder why they even bothered with a screenplay.

What to do:

We all know what happened on that date in 1984. It tells you nothing you don't already know - the villains, the victims et el. It neither serves as a grim yet unforgettable reminder of the day some men became monsters or offers hope that history won't repeat itself. As a film goes, it makes you feel nothing. And that's just sad.
Avoidable.
