The life of one of the world?s most notorious killers, Ted Bundy is all set to hit the big screens.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the ?Baywatch? star Zac Efron has signed on to a new film project, ?Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile? in which he will be playing the role of serial killer Ted Bundy.

The project would be helmed by Oscar-nominated documentary filmmaker Joe Berlinger.

The script of the movie is written by Michael Werwie.

The film?s story revolves around Elizabeth Kloepfer, Bundy's longtime girlfriend, who went years denying the accusations against Bundy but ultimately turned him in to the police.

Only nearing his execution, when Bundy began talking about his extensive and heinous murders, did Kloepfer, and the rest of the world, learn the true scope of his numerous and grizzly crimes.

Voltage is introducing the project to buyers in Cannes and is also handling international sales.

Nicolas Chartier and Ara Keshishian are producing via Voltage along with Michael Costigan, previously known for ?Ghost in the Shell? and ?Out of the Furnace,? while Efron?s Ninjas Runnin? Wild banner will produce alongside Michael Simkin and Jason Barrett.

The principal photography will begin in October.

On the work front, Zac Efron will be next seen in Seth Gordon?s ?Baywatch,? alongside Dwayne Johnson and Priyanka Chopra.

The flick is scheduled to release on May 25 in the US.
