On April 29, the Bengali film industry woke up to the shocking news of model and actress Sonika Singh Chauhan's death in a car crash. According to reports, the actress along with her friend Vikram Chatterjee were in the car when it rammed onto a shop near Lake Mall and took a 180 degrees turn.

Vikram survived with minor injuries but Sonika died on the spot. There have been several questions raised post the crash. Many have claimed that the two celebrities were drunk and were speeding their car. Sonika's family, despite maintaining a brave front has alleged that Vikram was intoxicated while driving.

Her friend Satarupa Pyne slammed Vikram and wrote on her Facebook profile, "This precious girl died. This Tollywood Junkie was drunk. His fake face and his historical background tells me he was intoxicated on hash or grass or may be more. His car's airbag couldn't have saved Sonika Chauhan's life because he managed to flip the car on her side. Can I charge a PIL in the high court asking for special investigation?"

Another friend, designer Navonil Das, too lashed out at Vikram for his irresponsible behaviour which cost Sonika her life. "Vikram, you did not have regards for the safety of the person next to you or on the street while driving madly at the breakneck speed (literally) that night and all the facts says it all. Speeding/racing etc. is a choice, which a person makes, (and you cannot blame any kind of influence for that) but you don't realize that you DON'T have the right to be the reason for someone losing their life, especially when that life is not yours. You have had blatant disregard for life, be it yourself or others."

Vikram was recuperating at a private hospital in Kolkata for about a week and this Thursday, he finally met the police who probed into the matter. Not just that, he also held a press conference for the same.

When he was asked about the allegations, he simply said, "I was neither drunk nor speeding." Then how did the accident happen? The police is investigating into the matter and noting down the missing links.

Vikram further added, "I don’t wish to earn sympathy. I don’t need sympathy. I would have been happier and at peace if Sonika had been there today, smiling, alive, even if that would have been at the cost of me not living in this planet anymore."
