Birkin and Celine have emerged to be the ultimate brunch buddies. Saint Laurent, Givenchy and Gucci are the other fav of our Bollywood actresses.
One look at the airport pap pictures and you can deduce without a shadow of doubt that nothing beats good ol' calf-skin (or croc skin) Birkin and the oversized, trapeze-shape Céline handbag.
Tote is the new black
Of late, designer Frida Giannini, creative head, Gucci sent a gorgeous flesh pink tote to Sonam Kapoor and the social media savvy actress was quick to Instagram it, captioning it as, "Thank you @Gucci #Frida for the stunning bag!! Wearing it ASAP."
We spotted a very similar Gucci Jackie hobo bag on Sridevi.
Kareena Kapoor Khan clearly loves her black totes. On three different occasions, she was seen carrying a Saint Laurent studded tote, a black Alexander McQueen tote and a Givenchy Antigona bag in the same hue.
Sis Lolo was recently spotted at the airport carrying a black quilted chain handbag. We are not surprised because Karisma loves her monochromes.
The ultimate go-to essential
Oversized handbags seem to be our glamazons' ultimate go-to essentials for a day event, when they are meeting their besties for coffee and gossip post lunch or attending exhibitions. Looks like that the last season's Birkins and Kellys have a new buddy in the form of lust-ilicious Celine which seems to be the new fav handbag brand. We don't blame the fashionistas as high street chains like H&M have copied the Celinetote and these copies have flooded the market. Be it a day event or a brunch - the usual look is a crisp white shirt or in some cases mini shirt-dresses, a pair of nude heels or wedges, a pair of oversized retro-style sunglasses and a giant tote. The tote addiction seems to show no signs of slowing down. In fact, in some of the party images we've been inundated with, the gigantic bag seems to overpower the dainty frame of the individual carrying it.
The Céline addiction
At the Charcoal Project collection preview, both Bhavana Pandey and Anu Dewan carried Céline totes. The two friends opted for nude pumps and aviators.
We still can't get over Sonali Bendre Behl's sassy Tom Ford tote. She wore a white button down shirt, a flamingo print Alice + Olivia skirt.
Twinkle Khanna opted for a light chambray and white shirt tunic, a pair of round framed, tinted aviators and a peach toned Balenciaga knotted handbag. Michelle Poonawalla offset her printed tank tunic with a Birkin.
Recently, when Malaika headed to Hyderabad for Arpita Khan's wedding, she was spotted carrying a python Gucci tote. "That's my fav bag," shares Malla.
Sister Amrita too loves her tote. Not long ago Ammu was photographed exiting a popular Mumbai eatery carrying a Celine bag.
Deepika flaunted her drool-worthy Céline tote as she headed straight to London for the SLAM tour sporting a black and white look.
Homemaker and a party regular Anu Dewan is known to have one of the biggest collection of Birkin bags in town - in every possible shape and colour. It's a rare sight to spot her without her prized companion.
Kiran Rao too has shown a penchant for Céline handbags at many occasions - often pairing it with Shivan and Narresh for a movie screening.
