'Star Wars' merchandise gives first glimpse of 'The Last Jedi' characters

For the first time after the title reveal for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Lucasfilm treated fans to the first look of the characters set to return for the ninth installment in the Skywalker Saga.

On Thursday, a preview of the packaging of the new Star Wars toys, to be out in September, gave a first glimpse of Poe, Rey, and Finn as they will appear in The Last Jedi.

The image that grabs the eyeballs is of Rey. Played by Daisy Ridley, the character is wielding the lightsaber we last saw her handover to Luke Skywalker at the end of The Force Awakens. Her hair is also pulled back in a different style.

Poe Dameron, played by Oscar Isaac, is wearing his full X-wing flight suit and Finn, played by John Boyega, seems to have made full recovery after his near-fatal encounter with Kylo Ren and is wearing the same jacket Poe gave him in Episode VII.

Walt Disney and Lucasfilm also unveiled plans for 'Force Friday II,' a global fan event celebrating the launch of new toys ahead of The Last Jedi release on December 15. The toys will go on sale at 12.01 am on September 1 around the world for a weekend-long celebration of Star Wars.

For now, this is enough to hold on till the annual 'Star Wars Celebration' fan gathering that takes place in Orlando, Florida on April 14. Expect a teaser or trailer for The Last Jedi then.
