Cricket may be a religion, but not everybody is a follower. More so, when the T20 (and consequently, the Indian Premier League) madness hits a fever pitch. Rather than have useless zingers of cricket trivia flying by every five seconds or fielding questions about which IPL team you’re rooting for, you’d actually have cooler conversations about award-winning series.

If you lose control of that remote, fikar not, dear couch potato, there’s a variety of shows on offer on streaming platforms. Pick one, grab a tub of popcorn, prop yourself up on cushions or pillows and star binge-watching these shows, pronto!

LIFE OR SOMETHING LIKE IT

Mozart in the Jungle

A Roman Coppola and Jason Schwartzman show starring Gael Garcia Bernal, Mozart is about Maestro Rodrigo, who has to revive the ageing New York Symphony orchestra with his fresh and out-of-the-box ideas and tunes.

Rodrigo falls in and out of love, and the order in that chaos, mixed with the amazing selection of music, makes for a riveting series. All three seasons are available streaming at the moment and this is one of those shows that will stay with you.

Transparent

This award-winning show has finished first three seasons and we cannot wait for the fourth season to come out this fall. Expect 15 episodes with a run-time of 20-25 minutes each. Boy! You will be sorted for the days when there are two matches being played.

Girlboss

Fashionistas, take heed. Nasty Gal’s Sophia Amoruso’s Girlboss streams globally come April 21. it starts with the rebellious and broke Sophia creating a fashion empire. It’s business and it’s fierce. Missing The Devil Wears Prada? Put this on your watchlist.

Insecure

Issa Dee is as awkward as they come. Sometimes, she also finds herself in the middle of racy tribulations faced by modern-day African-American women. The situations generate hilarious responses from Issa and her monologues and freestyle rapping in front of the camera will win you over.

Divorce

This show sees Sarah Jessica Parker in her element. The show has it all. Relationships, dresses, and corny dialogues. Then come the soft moments. Mushy stuff. Go for it with a hot cup of cocoa!

Stand-up comics

When you’re done binge-watching the shows and the two months of IPL seem to never end, check out the stand-up shows by the comedians on Netflix. Louis CK, Kevin Hart, and Dave Chappell.

DRAMA KE DEEWANE

Big Little Lies

We’ve reviewed Big Little Lies for your benefit. Now that the season has concluded, binge-watch it. The music of the show will guide you through the subtext of the drama happening between the mothers in Monterey, California. Nicole Kidman is phenomenal and if we may be so bold, this is Reese Witherspoon revived.

Fargo

For more drama in your life, finish bingeing two critically acclaimed seasons of Fargo inspired by Coen Brothers’ 1996 movie. The third season lands on April 19 just as SunRisers Hyderabad take on Delhi Daredevils and then you can add that to your schedule every Wednesday.

In the third season, Ewan McGregor plays twins Emmit and Ray Stussy. Emmit is successful and handsome so obviously, Ray, a parole officer, blames his brother for his misfortune. Sibling rivalry gets out of hand and things happen the way they usually take place in any season of Fargo.

13 Reasons Why

You also HAVE to watch 13 Reasons Why. We have given you reasons in the review.

THE REALITY OF THINGS

Chef’s Table

Coming to reality television, one of the soothing and amazing shows around is Chef’s Table. Each season features six of the most renowned international chefs. The show takes the viewers inside the lives and kitchens of these culinary talents. This is when food Instagrammers will need to put bibs around their necks, because bub, you gonna drool.

VIEW THE NEW

American Playboy

For something new, tune into American Playboy, a docuseries about the one and only Hugh Hefner. The series dives into 17,000 hours of footage and over 2,900 scrapbooks from Hefner’s personal archives. The series also shows interviews with notable figures including Jesse Jackson, Gene Simmons and Bill Maher; and cinematic reenactments of Hefner’s life. Basically, the story of how the iconic Playboy magazine came to be what it is. It is possible, the cricket lovers in your house would like to watch this one instead of one of those matches.
