PM Narendra Modi mourns demise of Pyarelal Wadali, says 'his work will continue to draw people towards sufi music'

Sufi music lovers are mourning the demise of younger Wadali brother, Pyarelal Wadali. At the age of 75, the singer passed away on Friday morning due to cardiac arrest.

Sufi music lovers are mourning the demise of younger Wadali brother, Pyarelal Wadali. At the age of 75, the singer passed away on Friday morning due to cardiac arrest. 

PM Narendra Modi is also saddened by the news and paid tribute to the singer whose contribution to sufi music will be cherished by generations to come. PMO India tweeted, " Saddened by the demise of Shri Pyarelal Wadali. His renditions attained great popularity globally. His worl will continue to draw people towards the joys of Sufi music. May his soul rest in peace: PM Narendra Modi."

Known for making Punjabi Sufi music popular worldwide,  Wadali Brothers Puranchand and Pyarelal hail from a village near Amritsar. The duo started off this singing career by singing bhajans at Harballah temple in Jalandhar. They are known for their various styles of singing such as Kaafian, ghazal and bhajan. Apart from their rendition of  Bullehsah’s Ghoonghat 'chak o sajna' and Amir Khusrau’s Damadam mast qalandar, they have also sung popular Bollywood numbers like  'Aye Rangrez Mere' in 2011 film Tanu Weds Manu and 2011's Mausam 'Ik Tu Hi Tu Hi', 'Tu maane ya na maane' among others.

 Singers like Daler Mehandi and Richa Sharma also paid tribute to the singer on Twitter.
