Singer Daphne Willis says she has never felt that being a homosexual impeded her growth, both as an individual and a professional.

The 30-year-old pop artiste says she had her fair share of issues with being gay when she was younger but today she has become "comfortable" with herself, reported Billboard.

"I write mostly about positivity and self-empowerment.

I've never personally viewed being gay as a major obstacle, but when I was younger I had my issues with it in terms of just being really comfortable with myself. That whole process has definitely influenced my writing," says Willis.

The songstress says through her new song "Somebody's Someone", she is trying to reach out to people who are troubled.

"I've suffered from depression and insomnia... And I self-medicated for a long time. It's as much a song about reaching out to someone who's in trouble as it is a song about you yourself not feeling alone and reaching out to others," she says.
