Leonard Nimoy's son raises over $650,000 for Spock documentary

Star Trek legend Leonard Nimoy's son Adam Nimoy has exceeded the goal of raising US $600,000 in funds through a Kickstarter campaign to complete a documentary about his father, titled For the Love of Spock.

The campaign finally raised US $662,640 on Kickstarter.

The project will mark the celebration of 50th anniversary of Star Trek, in which Nimoy essayed the half-human, half-Vulcan character 'Mr Spock', reported Variety.

"Rest assured: every dollar raised through this campaign will find its way to funding this film or helping in the promotion and advertising campaign. But the more we can raise, the better the end product will be. This film is a once in a lifetime chance and I want to give it all I have to give," Adam said. 

The project was first announced in late March, a month after Leonard Nimoy passed away on February 27. The campaign to raise funds for the documentary was launched on June 3 and though it has reached its goal in record time, Adam urged fans to keep contributing.

Nimoy played Spock's character in television and films, beginning from late 1964 to 2013. Kickstarter is an online fundraising platform for creative projects.
