Katy Perry released her new single 'Chained to the Rhythm' on Friday. The song, which features Bob Marley's grandson Skip, feels underwhelming compared to the other strong tunes the singer has churned out over the years.

'Chained to the Rhythm' is Perry's first song after her 2016 Olympics anthem 'Rise.' On February 8, Perry arranged for 24 locations around the globe to have a disco ball playing her latest. All that fans had to do was bring headphones.

Perry shares the writing credits for the song with Sia and her producer Max Martin. The lyrics talk about breaking free from the routine we are used. Turning us tone deaf. It's a message running parallel with the singer's political inclination. Though the lyrics are powerful, the mid-tempo beat does very little to lift the song from the crop of white noise.

Skip Marley's reggae blended with the pop music makes you look up from whatever that you might be doing. But like the lyrics go, "Living our lives through a lens/Trapped in our white-picket fence/Like ornaments/So comfortable, we live in a bubble," you never bother to come out of that bubble.

The video features a hamster called Mr. Parsons watching another hamster, Rory Ruff, on his telly while miniature food is being prepared for him by the folks behind 'Walking with Giants' YouTube channel. It's cute and the only exciting characteristic of the song.

Perry will be part of GRAMMYs 2017 headliners. It's being speculated that 'Chained to the Rhythm' will be on her set list.
