Kangana Ranaut's latest release- Tanu Weds Manu Returns'- is spelling magic at the cash registers.
Gone are the days when only a hero could get the cash registers jingling in Bollywood. With top heroines like Deepika Padukone, Vidya Balan, Anushka Sharma, Priyanka Chopra and most recently, Kangana Ranaut joining the race, they have given the actors a run for their money. And with Tanu Weds Manu Returns, box office history is all set to be made this year.
A film that earned in the range of Rs 8.75 crore on its opening day grew through the weekend to put up an excellent total of over Rs 38 crore in the first weekend itself. But the film passed the main acid test- earning huge moolah on its first Monday. Usually even top notch films that bring in heavyweight numbers at the box office, have fizzled out during the weekdays. But with TWMR, the case is altogether very different.
Tanu Weds Manu Returns, raked in around Rs 8.90 crore on its first Monday, thanks to the spectacular word of mouth that has been catching on. With repeat audience index getting higher by the day, the film has been witnessing excellent occupancy in the weekdays as well. Strikingly, this is the first time ever that a Bollywood film earned more than its opening day on the first Monday. Not just that, even on Tuesday, the film maintained its steady pace, bringing in Rs 8.20 crore to add to its kitty.
Now, the total collections of the film stands at a whopping Rs 55 crore and the team deserves an applause for achieving the feat in just 5 days. While most women centric films have a lifetime collection of around the Rs 60 crore, the Kangana starrer has put all of them behind. Soon enough, the film will also cross Deepika Padukone's Piku and Vidya Balan's The Dirty Picture and might as well zoom into the 100 crore brigade.
