John Abraham will be the chief guest at a beauty pageant with a difference. Called Princess India, the pageant is being held especially for the visually-impaired girls on International Women’s Day, March 8. It is jointly organised by the National Association for the Blind (NAB) and an NGO named Blind’s Dream founded by Samir Mansuri, who himself is visually impaired by birth.
On inviting John as the celebrity guest, Samir says, “John Abraham is known for his philanthropy. We could not have thought of anybody else as the special guest. He has given us an hour’s time and has agreed to crown the winner.”
Adds Samir, “He was bowled over with the idea of a beauty pageant for visually impaired. He felt that it will give loads of confidence to the girls, and that it’s a good concept.”
What also makes the pageant different is the girls aged between 18-30 are super achievers. While one girl, Stacey Rodrigues, has already published a book of poetry and has two painting exhibitions to her credit, another girl, Jyoti Malik, a computer wizard has designed and launched her own website.
The pageant will provide a platform for all these girls to showcase their varied talents — singing, dancing, painting and poetry among others.

Bhagyashree to judge
Bhagyashree has been roped in to judge the pageant. She says, “I always make time for anything that is done for a good cause. Many people prefer to donate money for charity, which is fair enough for people who are extremely busy. But I feel one should be there and encourage people who are in need of that. Moreover, this event is for women and I believe one should always be there to support them. Also, this is a pageant for visually impaired girls, who are enterprising. One of them is a computer wizard, another is a physiotherapist — the point is, they are doing the best of their lives, which is commendable and needs to be encouraged. I don’t mind just standing on the aisles and clapping for them.”
