It felt like there was an invisible gun on my head: Karan Johar on 'Ae Dil Hai Mushkil' apology video

A lot was said and written about Karan Johar and the apology video that was released during the entire fiasco revolving around the release of his film Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. Owing to the ban on Pakistani artists in India, MNS had started protesting against the release of the film as it also starred  Pakistani heartthrob Fawad Khan. 

Many even started questioning Karan Johar's patriotism. At that time, Karan had issued his statement in a video which was deemed as an apology to appease the MNS leaders.

Now, in an interview with Vir Sanghvi on CNN-News 18 channel, Karan Johar opened up about his apology video. "At the time of Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, I was torn between ideology and circumstance. I have my own belief and thoughts on this, but there's a studio and cast I'm accountable to, the team of the film I'm accountable to. So I had to put out a statement which I feel terrible about," he said, adding that he felt terrible to have arrived at such a juncture in his life where he was required to "sit in front of the camera" and speak about his "nationalism and patriotism". 

Citing the video apology as one of his worst mistakes in life Karan further said, "Everyone said it looked like you were going to cry. I wasn't crying and pleading to profess my nationalism. I wanted to break into tears... the fact that I had to do this. It felt like there was an invisible gun on my head."
