The 2001 cross-border film, Gadar-Ek Prem Katha, starring Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel, which proved to be a smash hit at the box-office, beating all box-office records, will soon be made into a sequel. Filmmaker Anil Sharma revealed this on the eve of the announcement of his latest film, Genius, to launch his son, Utkarsh Sharma, “I refused several offers for the remake of Gadar by leading corporate players, who were keen on producing it because I always felt the story of a film like Gadar could never be re-told. There were also queries about the sequel to the film, since the past 15 years. Now due to popular demand, I have finally made up my mind to make a sequel to Gadar. I plan to start working on that the moment I wrap up with my son’s debut project, Genius,” Anil Sharma revealed.

He added that he has the perfect casting in place. “My son, Utkarsh, who played the role of Sunny’s son in Gadar, has grown up into a fine young man and of course, there would be Sunny. There is no reason why we shouldn’t consider a sequel, but I will consider starting work on that, the moment I wrap up Genius,” he said.

Meanwhile, there is speculation that Sharma has also roped in Sunny to play an important cameo in Genius, though the filmmaker is tight-lipped about it, “Sunny is an inherent part of my life, not just my career. I would love to cast Sunny in each of my films. His love and blessings are always there with me, but I cannot comment on this yet,” he said.
