Both were certifiably dashing actors known for larger-than-life personas and their killer charm on screen
The Feroz Khan-Vinod Khanna connection ran deep. Not only did they pass away on the same date (April 27), they also died battling with cancer. FK’s lung cancer claimed him in 2009, while VK’s bladder cancer led to his passing last week. Friends and co-stars (both are best remembered for 1980’s Qurbani). Both were certifiably dashing actors known for larger-than-life personas and their killer charm on screen. Feroz’s son Fardeen told us that he was in London when he heard of Vinod’s passing, but believes that people like Vinod and Feroz “never die.”
He reasons, “Their talent, achievements and sheer audacity ensure that they live in our hearts and minds forever. It is very tragic and I wish I had a chance to meet him before he passed away, but I never knew he was ill. We just obviously got to know recently. It’s very, very, sad and my heart goes out to his family and my thoughts and prayers are with them.”
Speaking about the recently deceased actor, Fardeen said, “I have known Vinod uncle ever since dad and he started work on Qurbani together (1977). There are lots of memories that I have shared with him. He was one of the greatest actors of his generation and he will always be remembered and missed. He was one of the true macho men like my dad…”
While he doesn’t remember his first meeting with Vinod, he does say that he recalls meeting the actor on the sets or at home. “I must’ve been five or six then, so the memories aren’t that vivid, but I remember a few moments. I just knew Vinod uncle as one of my father’s best friends and I used to see them together all the time as they did three films together. There was always great warmth between them. I never saw him a star but as my father’s best friend because I was so young then.”
