The bold and beautiful Kangana Ranaut - inspired by her role of the 1940s actress Miss Julia in Vishal Bhardwaj’s Rangoon, recently visited the armed forces base camp in Jammu. Kangana believes that as an actor and entertainer, the least she can do is bring some joy into the tough lives of the valiant soldiers who guard the border – be it through her films or through this visit to the camp.

Yesteryear actress Marilyn Monroe, made many a heads turn when she travelled to Korea to entertain the troops at the frontline in the 1950s. Kangana, radiating elegance and panache at this instinctive Jammu visit now, brings back memories of the famed Marilyn Vietnam war trip and one cannot help but wonder about the striking resemblance between the two actresses.

In fact, even the character of Miss Julia in the film witnesses herself performing for the military troops in an effort to buoy their spirits. Transcending viewers back to the era of the British Raj and India’s fight for independence, Rangoon beautifully captures romance in the times of war.

Directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, Rangoon also stars Shahid Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan and is all set to release on February 24, 2017.
