Warner Bros and MGM pictures have unveiled the first look of Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft in Tomb Raider reboot.

Vikander is replacing Angelina Jolie who was the first one to play the lead made famous by the video game franchise. The game has sold over 35 million units worldwide so far.

First published in Vanity Fair, the images show Vikander wearing the iconic tank top at the coast of South Africa and then in some tropical forest.

The Oscar-winning actress' Lara Croft has a new backstory. According to the report in Vanity Fair, 21-year-old Lara Croft refuses to take charge of the global empire her father set up before disappearing seven years ago. Lara is in college and works as a bike courier in London on the side. Something happens and Lara decides to investigate her father's disappearance starting at his last-known location: a tomb on an island somewhere off the coast of Japan.

Along with Vikander, the movie also stars Dominic West, Walton Goggins, and Daniel Wu.

Synopsis of the movie reads,

Suddenly, the stakes couldn’t be higher for Lara, who—against the odds and armed with only her sharp mind, blind faith and inherently stubborn spirit—must learn to push herself beyond her limits as she journeys into the unknown. If she survives this perilous adventure, it could be the making of her, earning her the name tomb raider.

Directed by Roar Uthaug, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider is set to release on March 16, 2018.
