Gael Garcia Bernal and filmmaker Jonas Cuaron are coming together for the reboot of Zorro in a film entitled Z.

Bernal has signed up for a long-brewing reboot of the classic literary series that will put Zorro in a futuristic setting, Deadline reported.

Bernal, 37, will partner with Gravity co-writer Cuaron and producer Mark Amin on this updated incarnation of pulp writer Johnston McCulley's swashbuckling anti-hero.

"Zorro is a hero who is charming, witty and clever. Gael possesses all those characteristic and he's able to deliver them with a modern spin to introduce the Zorro character to a new audience," Amin said.

Bernal is fresh off a Golden Globe for the hit Amazon series Mozart in the Jungle.

Zorro has been played by such stars as Douglas Fairbanks, George Hamilton and Antonio Banderas over the decades.
