Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice was supposed to be a stepping stone to greatness for DC, leading up to a blockbuster hopeful with an entire cast of superheroes, The Justice League.

Unfortunately, the movie didn’t do nearly as well as expected, with casual watchers and even some devoted fans panning it. So, it’s no surprise that the DC front runner was a popular mention at the Razzies this year.

Batman vs Superman racked up eight nominations this year. Thankfully for director Zack Snyder, one other film was so terrible that it beat out his work for the prize.

Instead, the winner was a film by conservative Dinesh D’Souza, titled, Hillary’s America: The Secret History of the Democratic Party. The right-wing ‘documentary’, described as “an embarrassment to propaganda films”, bagged the Razzies in four categories — Worst Picture, Worst Director, Worst Actor (for D’Souza, who plays himself), and Worst Actress (for newbie Rebekah Turner as Hillary Clinton).

However, the DC superhero flick did manage to win ‘accolades’ for its four other nominations - Worst Screenplay, Worst Supporting Actor (for Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor), Worst Screen Combo (Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill), and Worst Remake, Rip-off or Sequel.

“It all came down to two decidedly different examples of cinematic sludge: the $250 million comic book adaptation Batman vs Superman and the faux right wing ‘documentary’ Hillary’s America: The Secret History of the Democratic Party,” a Razzies spokesperson said in a statement.

WHY WE LOVE THE RAZZIES

Also known as the Golden Raspberry Awards, it’s an annual ceremony to felicitate the year’s worst movies in Hollywood. Good fun indeed!
