It was not just the trio, The AIB Knockout saw Deepika Padukone, Sonakshi Sinha, Alia Bhatt and even Sonam Kapoor at the receiving end of some 'filthy' insults…
The AIB Knockout Roast trailer created mass frenzy post its release and millions of viewers all over the nation were waiting to catch the full version of the mad, mad Knockout Roast. When a show starts off with the line, “Let the filth begin”, you prepare yourself for what you’re about to witness.
Toilet humour, sarcasm, funny jokes and expletives galore, AIB Knockout was a sure shot hit. With some of the most sporting Bollywood icons—Ranveer Singh, Arjun Kapoor and Karan Johar—taking centre stage to let the world laugh at them, the show created a new shift in Indian comedy.
From a time when Bollywood actors got temperamental about a small joke on a coffee show, the industry seemed to have come a long way and dared to try something as exciting as the AIB Roast. But while the entire nation is going gaga about how Ranveer, Arjun and KJo took the joke on themselves, there were few others who, along with the trio, were indirectly and directly roasted on the show. Here are some samples:
Deepika Padukone:
Sitting in the front row with alleged boyfriend Ranveer being roasted, Padukone knew she would also have to face a few bullets. And she did, almost convincingly. If Ranveer smiled throughout the show, lady love Deepika also kept her sunny side up as the jokes kept piling. Sample? KJo tells the world, ‘The last good thing Ranveer was in was Deepika Padukone’. If this was not enough, Mojo Rojo ka Rohan Joshi from AIB had the best saved. ‘We wanted to get Ranbir but could manage only Ranveer – which is also what Deepika did’. *Wink*
Sonakshi Sinha:
If Deepika Padukone served as the main hub of jokes, when it came to roasting Ranveer, Sonakshi also could not shy away from the camera as the ‘filthy’ jokes were belted out at her one after the other. For example, ‘Why was Lootera based on the Last Leaf?” Don’t know? Here’s what AIB had to say. ‘Sonakshi ate the rest of the leaves’. While the Dabangg heroine was left in splits, they cheekily added, ‘We are kidding, Sonakshi doesn’t eat salads’. But the best one was shot at Arjun. ‘Sonakshi and Arjun are dating guys. But hey, you can’t be dating her’, AIB continued. Know why? ‘You can’t have carbs Arjun’. Now that was a shot!
Alia Bhatt:
Bhatt became more famous for being Miss No Brains after her Koffee with Karan episode than for portraying pouty, ultra glam Shanaya from her debut film Student of the Year. And the results as we know were disheartening. In Alia’s words, ‘Log Alia Bhatt hot pics ke jagah Alia Bhatt jokes Google karne ke lage’. But the actress fought back, took the joke on herself and with the help of AIB, showed that she’s not a melodramatic downer. While her mentor Karan Johar, her 2 States co-star Arjun Kapoor, along with his ‘Baba’ Ranveer Singh were being roasted, AIB did not spare Alia! With jokes on ISIS and Smriti Irani being directed at the roasted celebrities, the AIB members were quick to divert attention to our Highway actress. ‘Alia does not even know what ISIS is. And it’s not the ISI mark you find in your home appliances’ to ‘Alia, don’t even try’, the Alia jokes brought in the loudest cheers. Even her mother and her sister were left in splits!
The Kapoor khandaan:
Sonam Kapoor was not in attendance but that didn't mean she escaped jokes being cracked on her. A motormouth herself, Sonam never minces her words. And with the Knockout, AIB gave it right back to Sonam- in her own way! While roasting Arjun, Rohan had the insult ready. ‘It takes a special person to be the least talented person in a family that has Sonam and Sanjay Kapoor’. Ouch! Sanjay who was present took the joke in his stride and even waved back to the audience. But the joke on Arjun’s khandaan did not just end there. From jokes about his starry connections to his chachu Anil Kapoor’s English at the Academy Awards, everything was mocked at. But the best one happened to have come from KJo. ‘In 2 States, you play a Punjabi guy who falls for a hot South Indian girl. Basically you played Boney Kapoor’, Karan said and brought in the loudest cheers!
At a time when the entire nation is gung-ho about how Karan, Arjun and Ranveer sportingly took the jokes, we feel the others who indirectly got roasted also deserve a special mention. So this one’s for them!
