Shah Rukh Khan was invited to Vancouver to give a TED Talk in April this year, the video of which has already gone viral. The theme of the show was Future You but Shah Rukh took an interesting detour and highlighted how our present mindset will mould the future. The driving force of the talk was his analogy of how humanity is much like himself, an "ageing movie star".

In a fast-paced, dynamic world where the internet rules supreme, he reminds us of the one thing we have that is unchangeable and steadfast and why it's so sacred and important to shape our future.
Listed below are some of his quotes that stood out during the talk which are a perfect melange of wisecracking and thought-provoking :

1) "... I truly believe humanity is a lot like me. It's an ageing movie star."

2) "I was tweeting like a canary in a bird cage and assuming that people who peered into my world would admire it for the miracle I believed it to be. But something else awaited me and humanity.
Everything I did, good, bad, ugly, was there for the world to comment upon and judge. "

3) "In this new world, slowly, reality became virtual and virtual became real...Humanity, like me, was becoming an overexposed prima donna"

4) "So I wrote back WTF in bold to Mr.ADIDAS, thanking secretly that some acronyms and things won't change at all."

5) "The present you is innovative and resourceful and, of course, the present you is annoyingly indefinable "

6) "And I've learned from these people that neither power nor poverty can make your life more magical or less torturous. And I've learned from the people of my country, that the dignity of a life, a human bieng, a culture, a religion, a country actually resides in its ability for grace and compassion. I've learned that whatever moves you, what ever urges you to create to build, whatever keeps you from failing, whatever helps you survive is perhaps the oldest and the simplest emotion known to mankind, and that is love."

7) "The quest to cultivate the capacity for love and compassion has to assert itself."

8) "Be a you that returns back to the original innocence of humanity that loves from the purity of heart, which sees from the eyes of truth, which dreams from the clarity of an untampered mind."

9) "The future you has to be like an ageing movie star who has been made to believe that there is a possibility of a world that is completely, wholly, self-obsessively in love with itself."

For the first Bollywood star ever to have given a TED Talk, King Khan did a fantastic job and has given some food for thought to everyone!
