The second song from the Half Girlfriend soundtrack is finally here. The song Phir Bhi Tumko Chaahunga was so heavily demanded that it was released with its video a day early. After the mixed reception to the first song, Baarish, here are 5 things we really like about the new song and its video:

1. The theme: The song itself is a much better outing than the aforementioned Baarish, which basically did nothing more than take on the same tired trope of equating love with rain. This song works better, serving as predominantly Madhav Jha's declaration of undying love for his 'half girlfriend'. It works even better when you take into the fact that it includes both sides of the story, with Riya Somani ultimately feeling the same about him. This is the first glimpse we actually get into what Riya really feels, since the trailer didn't really do a lot of wonders in that department. Arijit Singh and Shashaa Tirupati lend their amazing voices to the song, which blend together perfectly.

2. The music and lyrics: One of the best qualities of the song is how timeless it feels, even more considering that it was written by Manoj Muntashir 16 years ago. It's a tune that could be relevant to Romeo and Juliet, Raj and Simran and Madhav and Riya. Muntashir's lyrics work well in establishing the helplessness the two characters feel, and their resolve to love each other regardless. With gems like 'Hasna yaaron na ho mujhse...pagal sa dhundun main tumhe', the song perfectly compliments the composition of Mithoon. The production of the song is good, no doubt, but that flute gives us fuzzy feels and chills at the same time.

3. Shraddha Kapoor: Shraddha Kapoor herself is one of the better parts of the song. While she hasn't exactly earned rave reviews for her appearances in the trailer or the video for the first song, she has a much better turn here. It's at this point that we can finally see Riya falling for Madhav, after countless moments of simply Madhav being the cute one. Their chemistry in the video is natural and while Shraddha does use her trademark lost look at certain spots, at least now they've been used at the right occasions.

4. The visuals: The visuals here take the story ahead, going from warm tones used in the heat of their relationship when they are still in India, to taking on a colder and bluer tone when we move on to the New York pursuit. It seems that the video was carefully made to introduce the film as a complete package and entice audiences to rush to theatres when it finally does come out. While they may not be beautiful settings, they are realistic. They actually inspire the feeling of 'so close, yet so far'. Some of the shots used in the video are highly effective and noteworthy, including Madhav's running around in New York in the snow (thank God no more rain!), the shots of Riya singing (especially the one in the bubble) and the final shot of the half girlfriend coaching board, which is a good indication of the kind of content we can expect to see in the movie.

5. The video's trajectory: The music video is essentially the entire film compressed into about 3 minutes of a whirlwind romance. We see the two lovebirds at the peak of their romance, we experience the big drop when Riya says all she can be is Madhav's 'half girlfriend', we see the inevitable end of their relationship and we see Madhav's downward spiral as he tries to win Riya back in New York, descending into alcoholism. The video serves as a capable sequel to the Baarish video, which focussed on Madhav first falling in love with the rich girl, who finally acknowledges him here.

Mohit Suri's Half Girlfriend, starring Arjun Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor, will be released in theatres on May 19, 2017.
