The Telangana government would involve school children in a big way in its campaign to promote green cover in the state, a senior minister said here today.

The campaign, titled 'Harita Haram' (green ornament), would begin on July 12 with Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao participating in the event at Karimnagar.

Rallies to raise awareness on tree plantation, elocution and essay writing competitions would be conducted for school children, Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari, who looks after education, told reporters.

Prizes would be distributed to the winners of the competitions on August 15, he said.

The students would be encouraged to take up tree plantation within the premises of the concerned education institution as well, Srihari added.
